Landfill Accident Kills Bulldozer Operator

Abulldozer operator was crushed to death at the Sunshine Canyon Landfill on Thursday when the machine rolled over and threw him off, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.
Robert Leverenz, 41, was pronounced dead at Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills after the 1:25 p.m. accident at the dump above Granada Hills, hospital nursing supervisor Marilyn Herrick said.
Leverenz was struck by a heavy piece of equipment attached to the bulldozer, Fire Department spokesman Greg Acevedo said.
It was not known what caused the bulldozer to roll, Acevedo said.
