Today’s Games : Trabuco Hills Tries to Rebound Against Wilson

Trabuco Hills High School, coming off only its third loss in the past two seasons, will play host to Long Beach Wilson in a nonleague game at noon today at Mission Viejo High.

Trabuco Hills, the defending Division VIII champion, was upset, 14-7, last week by Dana Hills. Trabuco Hills failed to score in the final two minutes after gaining a first down on Dana Hills’ five-yard line.

It marked the second-lowest point total for Trabuco Hills since it lost to Laguna Beach, 9-7, last season. Junior fullback Ben Rooker is the team’s top offensive threat, rushing for 253 yards in 35 carries and scoring four touchdowns.

Long Beach Wilson (1-1) is led by center-linebacker Buster Layton, who has helped the Bruins limit opponents to an average of 12.5 points per game. Wilson is the first Division-I team that Trabuco Hills has played in its history.

In other games, surprising Servite will play host to Taft at 7:30 p.m. in Glover Stadium. Servite quarterback Rob Walker established a school record last week by passing for 371 yards in a 45-28 loss to Los Alamitos.

Rancho Alamitos will play Norte Vista at Riverside City College and La Quinta will play at Western.
