Stanton : City Panel Will Help Promote 1990 Census
- Share via
Responding to a Census Bureau request for help, the city has agreed to appoint a citizen committee to encourage participation in the 1990 national census.
The council took the action after Fernando Tafoya, Santa Ana district manager for the Census Bureau, outlined promotional programs and projects the bureau is recommending to encourage people to participate in the national population count.
“The city’s role is community education,” Tafoya told the council Tuesday, explaining that the compilation of data has already begun, but the actual collection of names and addresses will not start until March.
In the meantime, Tafoya said the bureau will begin providing local communities with ad material and staff aid to help them begin the task of explaining the purpose and importance of gathering census data.
