Indiana Star Edwards Set on Clipper Contract
- Share via
Jay Edwards, Big Ten player of the year from Indiana, reached an agreement on a three-year contract with the Clippers Thursday and is expected to arrive in Los Angeles and sign today, a week before the start of training camp.
Terms were not disclosed, and Edwards’ agent, Bill Strickland, declined to discuss specific details of the deal, saying only that it is in line with what other high second-round picks have received. That would make it worth approximately $200,000 a season, with two years guaranteed.
The Clippers also invited four free agents to camp, including ex-USC star Derrick Dowell and six-year veteran Gene Banks. The others are Martin Nessley, who was with the team in 1987-88, and Torgeir Bryn, a 6-foot-10 player from Norway.
