Police arrested 40 soccer fans who harassed residents and vandalized two pubs in the resort town of Blackpool along the Irish Sea on the western coast of England.
Most arrests came before an English League soccer match between Blackpool and Birmingham.
Police said about 200 Birmingham fans without tickets arrived early for the game, even though it was sold out. The start of the match, won by Blackpool, 3-2, was delayed for 10 minutes as police searched Birmingham fans for forged tickets.
