THE SIDELINES : Jeannie Longo Breaks Her Sixth Cycling Record Since Last Week
- Share via
MEXICO CITY — French cycling champion Jeannie Longo broke her own world record in the high-altitude 3-kilometer trial today, speeding around the velodrome in 3:38.190 minutes.
The time beat the record she set last week by 3 1/2 seconds.
Longo, 30, broke five cycling records here last week, in the 3-kilometer, 5-kilometer, 10-kilometer, 20-kilometer and one-hour trials.
She said Sunday she would not be trying to break any more records during her stay here, but she decided to try to set records again this week because bad weather last week hampered her training.
Longo came to Mexico City because of its Olympic-class velodrome and its altitude of 7,400 feet, which reduces air resistance.
