College Roundup : SCC Tops Cal Baptist in Men’s Soccer

James Helmuth scored twice to lead the Southern California College men’s soccer team to a 3-1 victory over visiting Cal Baptist Wednesday.
Toby Ray scored three minutes into the game to give SCC a 1-0 lead, and Helmuth scored 32 minutes later to make it 2-0. Cal Baptist, which dropped to 4-7 overall, 0-2 in the conference, cut the lead to 2-1 on Terry Cassidy’s goal 10 minutes into the second half.
Helmuth scored at the 33:25 mark in the second half to seal the victory for SCC (3-9, 2-0).
In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. men’s soccer:
Chapman 1, Cal State Dominguez Hills 1 (OT)--Mark Merino scored for visiting Dominguez Hills with five minutes left in regulation to tie the game. Brian Wilson scored in the first half for Chapman (5-3-3). Dominguez Hills is 6-3-1.
In nonconference women’s soccer:
Cal State Dominguez Hills 2, Chapman 0--Goalie Laurel Angell had 17 saves for Chapman (3-5-2).
