Some Answers on Joffrey
For those readers who may be curious about the dance program’s position on the new dance studios and the Joffrey Ballet’s residency on the campus of Cal State L.A., and as a quick response to Howard P. Holliday’s letter (Sept. 23), regarding the Joffrey and dance space at Cal State L.A.:
* The dance studio in King Hall is to support our growing dance program. We are delighted to have the Joffrey on campus! There are no conflicts!
* Its presence affords our dance, design and tech students opportunities that are rare in any setting: Master classes, “conversations with professional dancers,” professional designers on campus, etc.
* The plans for constructing the dance studio and rehearsal space in King Hall were being formed well before any discussion of the Joffrey’s residency.
* The dance faculty and I were consulted regarding the Joffrey, and their presence on campus comes with the dance faculty’s complete approval and support.
We are here to serve the students. The new King Hall dance facility as well as the presence of the Joffrey on campus are greatly beneficial and appreciated.
