Alarm Tips Police to Murder Suspect

Santa Monica police arrested a murder suspect this week, after employees at a Venice check-cashing business who recognized the man set off a police-installed silent alarm when he arrived to pick up a welfare check.
Police arrested Michael Kevin Riley, 37, of Santa Monica, as he left Community Check Cashing on Lincoln Boulevard. Riley is suspected in the shooting death Aug. 5 of Paul Remby, 19, a homeless Santa Monica man.
The silent alarm was installed by Santa Monica police in September after they learned that Riley had been receiving and cashing welfare checks at the Venice location.
Santa Monica police got involved in the case because the murder took place in Santa Monica.
A police computer check revealed that Riley was a welfare recipient.
