Walker Lands Job as Pierce Softball Coach

Karen Walker, a 22-year-old UCLA senior, has been hired to coach the Pierce College softball team, replacing John Skinner.
A walk-on coach with no teaching responsibilities, Walker will continue to pursue her degree in kinesiology at UCLA while coaching the softball team.
“I’m excited because I’ve always wanted to test coaching out and see if I wanted to do it,” Walker said.
Walker, a Woodland Hills native and former City Section co-Player of the Year at El Camino Real High, went on to become an All-Pacific 10 Conference player at UCLA and played on the gold-medal team in the U. S. Olympic Festival this summer.
“She’s got a very good track record,” said Marian McWilliams, the Pierce athletic director.
McWilliams interviewed several candidates for the position but said, “None of them really fit the bill like Karen did.”
