High School Roundup : Curtiss Lifts Agoura to Tennis Win Over Thousand Oaks

Natalie Curtiss of Agoura High defeated Tricia Shinden of Thousand Oaks in the final singles match Friday to clinch the Chargers’ 10-8 nonleague tennis victory at Agoura.
Leading, 8-7, Agoura (5-1) needed Curtiss’ victory to win the match. Had Curtiss lost, the match would have ended in a 9-9 tie, and Thousand Oaks would have prevailed in the tiebreaker, the total number of games won.
Agoura lost seven of nine singles matches, but the Chargers took eight of the nine doubles matches.
Agoura’s No. 1 doubles team of Jackie Yang and Kathy Fitzpatrick and the No. 2 team of Sue Jean Lee and Jennifer Frizzelle were each 3-0.
Sherry Bryster and Michelle Palmisano were each 3-0 in singles for Thousand Oaks (2-6).
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Providence d. Buckley, 15-6, 15-3, 15-5--Mellissa Pope drilled 10 kills and Beth Beals supported her with eight for host Providence (3-6, 2-3 in league play).
Providence’s Deanna Bocz recorded eight service aces.
