100 Lennon Fans Mark His Birthday

About 100 people sang “Give Peace a Chance” at John Lennon’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday night in memory of the former Beatle on what would have been his 49th birthday.
Sponsored by the Alliance for Survival, the celebration featured a birthday cake sliced by Michelle Phillips of the 1960s rock group the Mamas and Papas, and a video showing of the Lennon documentary, “Imagine,” released last year.
Lennon’s star is in front of Capitol records on Vine Street north of Hollywood Boulevard.
Alliance for Survival director Jerry Rubin said the party was meant to honor Lennon, who was shot in 1980 outside his New York City apartment building, for his work both as a musician and a peace activist.
