More than 2,000 mourners, including classmates and delegations from other schools, attended a funeral for Kevin Copeland, the Dorsey High School football star who collapsed and died during a game last Friday night.
Six teammates in green jerseys bore the casket, while athletes from Manual Arts and Jefferson paid tribute to Copeland, 17, last year’s All-City selection at wide receiver. Some students attending the service at Maranatha Community Church were overcome with grief and had to be led outside.
Copeland collapsed on the sideline during a game against San Pedro.
