Lakers Return to Minneapolis, Beat Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS — The Lakers, who left Minneapolis 29 years ago, showed little compassion for Minnesota’s first National Basketball Assn. team since then, scoring a 100-90 victory Wednesday night in the Timberwolves’ debut before a league-record exhibition crowd of 35,156.
The Timberwolves were within 26-24 after one quarter before Magic Johnson scored nine of his 21 points as the Lakers built a 52-39 halftime lead.
The Lakers are unbeaten in exhibitions despite having played six games in eight nights. Minnesota was the last NBA team to begin the exhibition season.
It was Minnesota’s first NBA home game since March, 1960. The Lakers moved west on April 28, 1960. The last regular-season game in the state was in 1967 between the Baltimore Bullets and St. Louis Hawks.
A.C. Green added 17 points for the Lakers. Shelton Jones led the Timberwolves with 16.
