TENNIS ROUNDUP : Connors Wins in Tel Aviv, Nears Second Straight Title

Jimmy Connors, seeking his second tournament victory in eight days, defeated Amos Mansdorf of Tel Aviv, 6-3, 7-5, Friday in the semifinals of a Grand Prix tournament at Tel Aviv.
In the final, Connors, 37, faces another Israeli, Gilad Bloom, ranked 181st in the world. Bloom advanced by beating Italy’s Gianluca Pozzi, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3, in a three-hour match.
Connors won a tournament in Toulous, France, last weekend by beating John McEnroe.
Top-seeded Stefan Edberg of Sweden beat Frenchman Henri Leconte, 6-1, 7-6 (9-7), and led the way into the semifinals of a $627,000 tournament at Tokyo.
In other matches, Aaron Krickstein of beat Grant Connell of Canada, 6-3, 6-4; Carl-Uwe Steeb of West Germany topped Rick Leach, 6-4, 7-5, and Darren Cahill of Australia outlasted Ronald Agenor of Haiti, 3-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-4.
Ivan Lendl defeated Andrei Chesnokov of the Soviet Union, 6-2, 6-4, in the semifinals of a tournament at Essen, West Germany, and will face compatriot Miloslav Mecir in the final.
