Ideas of Alhambrans and S. Pasadenans in Gridlock

The “black cloud hanging over South Pasadena” (‘1 City’s Passion Is Another’s Poison,’ Times, Oct. 15) is not the freeway issue, it is smog. It is time for Alhambra City Manager (Kevin) Murphy and Mayor (Michael) Blanco to wake up and smell the fumes.
The solution to our region’s traffic problem is not to cover the land with more concrete, but instead to realize the problems of burning increasing amounts of fossil fuels and implement non-polluting mass transit systems to take us into the 21st century.
The thing that struck me most about the photograph of Fremont Avenue was not the long lines of cars but the fact that the majority of the cars were occupied by one person.
