MAKING THEM PAY: After discovering that it cannot legally make oil companies pay to clean up the mess they made in the 1920s, the city of Sante Fe Springs wants to charge two local refineries $898,000 a year for fire protection. The issue will be discussed in the City Council chambers Thursday evening.
WASTE CHEMICAL PICKUP: A Household Hazardous Waste Roundup will be sponsored by the City of Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium on Saturday. Residents can discard unwanted paint, engine oil and other common household chemicals.
