Tekelec Profit Falls as Revenue Drops 12%

Tekelec, a Calabasas maker of telecommunications testing equipment, said its third-quarter profit fell 50% from a year earlier on a 12% decline in revenue.
In the quarter that ended Sept. 30, Tekelec’s net income dropped to $735,000 from $1.48 million, while its revenue fell to $8.22 million from $9.34 million.
For the first nine months of 1989, Tekelec’s earnings skidded 35%, to $2.54 million from $3.88 million a year earlier, despite a 9% increase in its nine-month revenue to $25.6 million from $23.5 million.
