Pomona : Green Light for Garey Plan
The City Council by a 3-2 vote has authorized the city staff to solicit bids for a project to improve Garey Avenue between 2nd and 9th streets at an estimated cost of $1,150,000.
The improvements will include the replacement of a water main, installation of a traffic signal at 9th and Garey, lowering of the crown along the center of Garey and installation of benches and special paving along sidewalks and at crosswalks to enhance the street’s appearance.
Councilmen C. L. (Clay) Bryant and Mark A. T. Nymeyer voted against the project. Nymeyer said the city should have included landscaped medians to conform with another recently improved section of Garey. Bryant said he would not vote to spend money on the project “when we’ve still got a town that’s full of crime and drugs.”
