PUC to Study Rules on Moving Vans: The state Public Utilities Commission voted to re-examine its regulation of moving vans, whose minimum rates have been set by the state for more than 50 years. In a statement released in San Francisco announcing its investigation, the PUC said it was concerned about claims by witnesses at hearings last year “that the current method of regulation may be impeding, rather than promoting, consumer protection, including the opportunity to be served at the lowest reasonable rates.” The commission said it would hold new hearings, at a time to be announced, on the regulation of commercial movers of used household goods.
