DANA POINT — A Marine Corps helicopter made a precautionary landing Friday at a construction site after the pilot’s instruments indicated possible hydraulic problems, a Marine spokesman said.
The Marine CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter made the emergency landing at a construction site near El Camino Real and the Street of the Golden Lantern at about 11:20 a.m. Another Sea Knight was dispatched with repair crews and replacement parts to allow the damaged helicopter to return to the Marine Corps Air Station in Tustin.
In an unrelated incident, the pilot of a Marine attack jet parachuted to safety Friday before the A-4M Skyhawk crashed in a remote area on a Twentynine Palms training base in San Bernardino County.
Marine Capt. Howard A. Williams, 28, of Troy, Ala., ejected from the jet attack aircraft during the training mission over the desert. He was based in Yuma, Ariz., as part of the same 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing that is based at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station.
