The Issue of Raising Sales Tax for Roads
Voters have approved a huge increase in tobacco taxes and they have approved many bond measures that will have to be repaid with our tax dollars. It appears that some of us still have money left for groceries. To stop such waste of our money, we are being asked to increase our sales taxes: Measure M on Tuesday.
Measure M’s intent is to relieve traffic congestion. The true effect of the tax increase would be to allow more building in undeveloped areas of Orange County and to add more and more cars to our streets. Do you want to pay more taxes so developers can get richer and traffic congestion increases?
Money is already available for widening Orange County freeways, so why more taxes? Plans are made for us to approve more tax increases. The figuring is that, if they were all on the same ballot, we would reject them. How many tax increases can you afford?
