SOUTHLAND ROUNDUP : Armstrong Passes UCSB Past Menlo

Steve Armstrong threw for 425 yards and five touchdowns as the UC Santa Barbara cruised to a 59-0 win against Menlo on Saturday at Santa Barbara.
Armstrong, who completed 29 of 39 passes, set school records for completions and yardage. He scored on a one-yard run in the first quarter and threw touchdown passes of 50, 18, 11, 10 and 27 yards to five receivers.
UC Santa Barbara led 35-0 at halftime. The Gauchos (7-2) had 612 yards total offense and held Menlo to 77.
Cal Lutheran 21, Azusa Pacific 17--Craig Ashley returned a kickoff 42 yards on a reverse, setting up Dean Henderson’s 19-yard touchdown run with 9:46 left, as the Kingsmen won at Thousand Oaks.
Ashley got the ball on a reverse from Eddie Hoffman and returned it to the Azusa Pacific 46. Quarterback Dan Nagelmann then threw a seven-yard pass to Tom Leogrande and followed with a 20-yarder to Dave Deisinger. Henderson scored on a draw play to seal the victory.
Despite four turnovers, Cal Lutheran improved to 3-6. Azusa Pacific dropped to 3-4.
Whittier 36, Pomona-Pitzer 12--Quarterback Mike Haney threw three touchdown passes and ran for another to lead the Poets at Whittier.
Haney, a senior, completed 17 of 30 passes for 268 yards. Robert Lopez caught six passes for 81 yards, including a 28-yard catch for a touchdown in the third quarter. Lopez also rushed for 64 yards in 13 carries.
Whittier led 16-0 at halftime, and scored 20 unanswered points in the third quarter.
Whittier improved to 3-5 while Pomona-Pitzer dropped to 1-6.
CS Northridge 24, Sacramento State 13--Albert Fann rushed for 251 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the Matadors to a Western Football Conference win at Sacramento.
Fann rushed for 190 yards in 19 carries in the second half. He helped boost Northridge to a 5-5 record overall and 2-2 in conference play. Sacramento finished its season 5-4 and 2-3.
Southern Utah State 38, Cal Poly SLO 24--Kelvin Minefee rushed for 111 yards in 26 carries and scored three touchdowns as the Thunderbirds held off the Mustangs at Cedar City, Utah.
