The City Council, acting as the Redevelopment Agency, voted unanimously Tuesday to acquire P & L Auto Parts on Huntington Drive by eminent domain.
In a letter to the agency last May, the owners of the business, Phyllis and Michael Warshaw, demanded that the agency acquire the 7,000-square-foot property by this month or eliminate it from the redevelopment project area. No agreement was reached on a sale price.
The property, in the 200 block of East Huntington Drive, is the last portion of a redevelopment area between Canyon Boulevard and Ivy Avenue to be completed, said Don Hopper, assistant executive director of the agency.
He said the agency, which has no plans yet for the property, had intended to acquire the site within three to five years.
The Warshaws would not comment.
