La Quinta’s Jalewalia Headed to UCLA

A number of local high school basketball players signed national letters of intent Wednesday, the first day of the week-long fall signing period.
La Quinta basketball player Amy Jalewalia, the leading scorer in the state with a 31-point average, will sign today to attend UCLA, according to her coach, Kevin Kiernan.
Jalewalia is 6-1 and 135 pounds and plays both guard and forward. She averaged 13 rebounds and was selected to the all-Garden Grove League team, the all-Orange County team, and received honorable mention all-state.
Mark Wilkirson of Foothill High, has decided to play basketball for Cal State Northridge next year, according to the school’s sports information department.
Wilkirson, a 6-foot-5, 175-pound senior who plays guard and forward, averaged 17 points, nine rebounds and four assists per game last season. He was a first-team all-Century League selection last season.
Andy Karich, a 6-5 senior forward at Mater Dei, has signed with Santa Clara University.
Keith Walker, a 6-5 guard who averaged 25.8 points for Brea-Olinda last season, is headed to California. Matt Lien, a Rancho Santiago College forward who averaged 12 points a game last year, also will attend Cal.
