La Quinta Blasts Garden Grove, 54-26

GARDEN GROVE — La Quinta earned a second-place finish in the Garden Grove League and a Southern Section playoff berth Thursday night by routing host Garden Grove, 54-26.
The Aztecs (6-4 overall, 5-2 in league) used the passing of quarterback Richard Weaver and the running and receiving of halfback Trent Julian to turn a 15-12 lead into a blowout with three second-quarter touchdowns.
Julian scored three of his four touchdowns in the first half.
Weaver completed 17 of 23 passes for two touchdowns and 274 yards.
Argonaut quarterback Bob Ioja completed 14 of 24 passes for 252 yards but had four interceptions. Garden Grove finished its season with a record of 3-7, 1-6 in league.
