COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Three UCI Players Advance in Tennis Tournament

Three UC Irvine players advanced to the third round in the Intercollegiate Tennis Coaches Assn. regional tennis championships at UC Irvine Thursday.
Irvine’s Andy Joe defeated UNLV’s Billy Campbell, 6-1, 6-4, and Scott Potthast of Cal State Long Beach, 6-3, 6-3; teammate Jeff Miyamoto defeated Mark Ellison of UC Santa Barbara, 6-4, 6-4, and Yuta Tsunoda of UNLV, 6-2, 6-4; and UCI’s Mike Saunders beat Johan Eriksson of New Mexico State, 0-6, 7-5, 7-6, and Burt Lemercier of Florida State, 0-6, 6-4, 7-6.
UCLA’s Jason Netter, the No. 1 seed, won two singles matches to advance to the third round. Netter defeated Arizona State’s Craig Purcell by default and Arizona’s Thad Langford, 6-3, 6-3.
In Big West Conference water polo:
Cal State Long Beach 11, UC Irvine 10 (OT)--Mike Burke scored six goals including one in overtime for Long Beach at the Belmont Plaza pool. It was tied, 9-9, at the end of regulation but Burke and Steve Laughlin scored in the overtime for Long Beach (15-8, 6-2), the fifth-ranked team in the country.
Pablo Yrizar scored four goals for UC Irvine (21-6, 5-2), the second-ranked team in the nation.
