COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UCI Uses 3-Pointers to Edge Brazilian Team
- Share via
UC Irvine lived by the three-point shot again Saturday, gaining a reprieve from its terrible free-throw shooting to take a 87-84 overtime victory over Nosso Club Brazil at the Bren Center.
Irvine center Ricky Butler, rebounding a long Rod Palmer miss, made a three-pointer--Irvine’s 10th of the game--from the corner as time ran out to give Irvine the victory, its second straight in exhibition play.
But unlike Wednesday’s victory over High Five America, in which the Anteaters overcame an 18-point second half deficit, Irvine blew a 13-point second half lead this time largely because of atrocious free-throw shooting.
Irvine made just five of 13 second-half free throws in the second half (35%).
As the Anteaters faltered, Nosso rallied behind the shooting of guard Carlos Romano, who scored 30 second-half points, including six three-point shots.
