Fountain Valley Continues to Prepare

Fountain Valley High School’s football team is all dressed up with no place to go.
Baron Coach Mike Milner was told on Wednesday by Southern Section officials to continue to practice for a Division I playoff game against Fontana. Huntington Beach is currently scheduled to play the Steelers in the first-round game at Fontana.
Fountain Valley finished fourth in the Sunset League, but the Barons were awarded a playoff berth after Huntington Beach forfeited eight games because of an ineligible player. Tuesday, a restraining order reinstated the Oilers and left Fountain Valley out of the playoffs.
However, Fountain Valley will continue to prepare for the playoffs, which begin Friday.
“We were told to continue to practice by the Southern Section,” Milner said. “From what we were told, the Southern Section plans to appeal and we may end up in the playoffs yet.”
Milner met with his team Wednesday and informed the players that they might still gain entry into the playoffs. An attorney for the Southern Section is expected to file a writ of appeal today that would reverse Tuesday’s restraining order.
“We really don’t know what to expect,” Milner said. “We could be on the bus Friday night, ready to go to the game, and someone could tell us we’re out of the playoffs.”
