LOS ALAMITOS — A fire that officials said Tuesday could have been halted by a sprinkler system caused an estimated $300,000 damage to a Los Alamitos industrial firm.
A malfunction in an electric cutting machine caused the blaze at Pacific Coast Tool & Die Co., 10891 Bloomfield St., authorities said. The blaze broke out about 8:45 p.m. Monday, fire officials said.
The fire caused about $250,000 in damage to expensive machinery at the company and $50,000 to the concrete building, according to Orange County Fire Capt. Hank Raymond. Twenty-one firefighters contained the blaze in about 20 minutes.
Although the building met fire codes, Raymond said a fire sprinkler system would have significantly reduced the fire loss.
