A 41-year-old man who picked up a fatally injured pedestrian in Otay Mesa was arrested Thursday on suspicion of drunken driving, a CHP spokesman said.
The suspect, Jamie R. Perez of Fallbrook, drove more than 30 miles with the victim in his vehicle before being stopped by the CHP, Officer Lisa Snapp said.
Perez was booked into County Jail in Vista on felony drunk-driving charges and is being held on $10,000 bail, a jail spokeswoman said.
The unidentified victim, who was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, died about midnight, Snapp said.
An unidentified witness who followed Perez told police the victim was picked up from the eastbound lanes of Otay Mesa Road near Brown Field at 5:05 p.m., Snapp said.
