Cal Lutheran Falls to 0-3

SAN DIEGO — Jon Jerome had 15 points and nine rebounds and the University of San Diego Toreros opened their season with an 82-46 nonconference victory over Cal Lutheran on Friday night.
Dondi Bell added 13 points and Guylan Dottin 12 as San Diego got scoring from 13 of the 15 Toreros who played.
Cal Lutheran, an NAIA school, fell to 0-3. Jeff deLaveaga had 18 of his 28 points in the first half, but Cal Lutheran trailed, 35-25.
Cal Lutheran led, 15-13, eight minutes into the game. But San Diego sandwiched two 9-0 runs around a three-point shot by deLaveaga to take a 31-18 lead 6 1/2 minutes before halftime.
San Diego won despite shooting 45 percent from the field and 55 percent from the line. The Toreros outrebounded Cal Lutheran, 44-27.
