Irvine to Play USF in Opener Tonight

UC Irvine will open its basketball season against the University of San Francisco tonight at 7:30 at Memorial Gym in San Francisco.
Irvine has three starters returning: center Ricky Butler, who averaged nearly 18 points in the last 12 games of last season; forward Jeff Herdman, who shot almost 50% from three-point range, and guard Rod Palmer, who averaged 15 points. The Anteaters are coming off a 12-17 season.
San Francisco has three starters from last season’s 16-12 team.
