LA PALMA — Police officers from four Orange County cities arrested five motorists on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs during a random sobriety checkpoint Friday night in the 7600 block of Valley View Street in La Palma.
In all, the officers administered 11 field sobriety tests to 926 drivers who were stopped from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday.
One citation was issued for driving with an open container of alcohol.
The checkpoint was not intended to produce a dramatic number of arrests, but rather to reduce the number of drunk drivers on the road, said Ann Owen, dispatcher with the La Palma police.
Participating in the multi-agency checkpoint were Seal Beach, Los Alamitos, Cypress and La Palma police.
