Mira Costa Defeats Torrey Pines

Mira Costa High advanced to the semifinals of the CIF Division I girls state volleyball playoffs by defeating Torrey Pines of Encinitas, 15-6, 15-5, 15-10, at Redondo Union on Saturday.
Mira Costa (25-0) plays the winner of the Northern California regional Livermore Granada-Los Altos quarterfinal match Tuesday at a site to be determined. Torrey Pines, the San Diego Section Division I runner-up, ended the season 23-5.
Mira Costa easily defeated the Falcons in the first two games, before falling behind 9-5 in the third game. But the Mustangs regrouped to outscore Torrey Pines 10-1 to win the last game and the match. In that 10-point spurt, Heidi Eick had two kills and a solo block. Jennifer Streatfield ended the match with a service ace.
