California IN BRIEF : DAVIS : UC Davis Offers to Return Dog Subjects

Officials at UC Davis admitted that they purchased a greyhound for medical experiments from a trainer who did not inform the dog’s owners that it would be used in a laboratory. Because of this, university officials have offered to return 23 greyhounds if the owners can be identified and if those owners object to their animals being used in testing. Kathleen Jenkins, the lawyer representing UC Davis, made the announcement during a hearing in Yolo County Superior Court in Woodland. Judge Harry Ackley granted a 30-day injunction against experimentation on the greyhounds sought by lawyer Daniel Whaley, representing five greyhound owners.
