Clutch Shot by Castaneda Clinches Tournament Title for Burroughs

With 25 seconds to play and Burroughs High trailing by one point, senior guard Doug Castaneda buried a three-point shot to lift the Indians to the championship of the Burbank-Hoover tournament with a 64-60 victory over Beverly Hills on Monday at Hoover High.
Center Ray Velasquez had a team-high 21 points for Burroughs (3-0) and was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Castaneda added 18 points and hit four of five three-point shots.
In other high school basketball games:
Simi Valley 70, Dos Pueblos 66--Kenny Hood scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Simi Valley past Dos Pueblos in a semifinal game of the Simi Valley tournament.
Center Mike Wawryk scored 18 points and Steve Carnes added 15 for Simi Valley (3-0), which will face Capistrano Valley in the final.
Kennedy 63, Glendale 56--Guard Garret Anderson’s game-high 24 points led the Cougars past Glendale and into the consolation championship game.
Taft 79, Mark Keppel 45--Guard Casey Sheahan scored 15 points as the Toreadors advanced to the consolation final.
