MEXICO CITY — Thirty-one people died and six were injured when a bus burst into flames after being hit by a truck in the northern state of Chihuahua, state authorities said today.
“The truck apparently crossed into the lane carrying oncoming traffic and the bus exploded, catching fire immediately,” spokesman Joaquin Olivas said.
The accident, which occurred late Monday about 12 miles south of the city of Chihuahua, killed the truck driver and 30 bus passengers.
Most of the victims were badly burned and authorities have been able to identify only two of the dead, Olivas said.
