The second one was a lot harder, said Paramount High School Coach Ken Sutch, whose team has repeated as Southern Section Division III Football Champions.
“There is a fear of losing because you know you can win,” Sutch said.
The Pirates won their second consecutive championship by defeating El Toro, 26-20, Saturday night at Cerritos College.
Senior quarterback Jack Manu, last season’s CIF Player of the Year, threw a touchdown pass to Darrell Cloy with 1:47 left in the fourth quarter to clinch the victory.
South Gate High’s bid for a second consecutive Los Angeles City 3-A Title was denied by Franklin, which defeated the Rams, 28-6, Friday night at L.A. Wilson High.
The loss was the first suffered by South Gate in its last 25 games. The Rams finish the season at 10-1-1.
