A seven-foot-tall, 1,700-pound Christmas “tree” of canned goods for the needy was erected Sunday at the Culver City Municipal Plunge swimming pool on Overland Avenue and Culver Boulevard.
Volunteers have been collecting cans for the “Christmas CanTree” since Thanksgiving, said Esther Tarn, president of the Culver City Board of Realtors, which erected the tree. It will be dismantled this weekend, and the food will be donated to the city Human Services Department’s Holiday Food Basket Program.
Friday is the deadline for donating canned goods or money. For information, call Rosalie Gotz at (213) 202-5856.
