Shareholder Opposes Campbell Sale: A minority shareholder at Campbell Soup Co. said he opposed calls by a rival faction to sell the food giant, indicating that the battle about the company’s future was just heating up. “I believe that shareholders will realize the greatest value for their stock by the Campbell Soup Co. remaining independent at this time,” said George Strawbridge Jr., who controls 2.5% of the company’s stock and sits on the board. “My shares are not for sale,” he emphasized in a statement. His statement followed the announcement Thursday by another minority group of shareholders that their stock was for sale and that they favored selling Campbell. About 59% of Campbell shares are owned by heirs.
