SYDNEY, Australia — Alan Bond, caught in a morass of legal action that threatens his corporate survival, struck back today at the banks that have brought his flagship company to the brink of collapse.
Bond Corp. Holdings Ltd. filed a writ alleging that National Australia Bank Ltd. and other banks in a syndicate of lenders had willfully conspired to injure Bond’s Australian breweries.
Last week the syndicate gained court approval to appoint receiver-managers to the breweries, an appointment being contested by Bond in a battle in the Victorian Supreme Court that has been adjourned until Friday.
Bond Corp.’s writ seeks damages from the syndicate, although it does not name a figure.
The breweries owe the syndicate more than $700 million ($545 million U.S.)
