Hitachi Chemical Co.’s chemical research laboratory on the campus of UC Irvine is designed to accommodate the newest Japanese technology for use by both industry and university scientists engaged in medical research. General contractor for the $9-million, precast concrete facility is Robert E. McKee Inc., a subsidiary of Jacobs Engineering Group Inc., Pasadena. McKee constructed the four original buildings on the UCI campus in 1961.
