The Baltimore Orioles traded designated hitter Larry Sheets to the Detroit Tigers for infielder-outfielder Mike Brumley.
In 1987, Sheets, 30, batted .316 with 31 home runs and 94 runs batted in but was relegated last year to part-time duty as the Orioles’ designated hitter, batting .243 with seven home runs and 33 RBIs. Brumley, 26, who plays three infield positions and the outfield, batted .198 with one home run and 11 RBIs for the Tigers last season.
