Money Supply Mixed: The narrowest measure of the nation’s money supply, M1, rose in the week ended Jan. 1 to a seasonally adjusted $805.2 billion from $802.3 billion the week before. A broader measure, M2, fell to a seasonally adjusted $3,221.4 billion from $3,227.3 billion. M1 includes cash in circulation, deposits in checking accounts and non-bank travelers checks. M2 is M1 plus accounts such as savings deposits and money-market mutual funds.
