THE SIDELINES : Bittner Wins Planai Slalom

SCHLADMING, Austria — Armin Bittner of West Germany registered his third World Cup slalom victory of the season, winning on the Planai course today. Bittner, the defending World Cup slalom champion, had a combined time of 1 minute, 56.26 seconds, for two runs. Michael Tritscher of Austria was second, six-hundredths of a second behind.
Konrad Ladstaetter of Italy and Japan’s Tatsuya Okabe tied for third. Pirmin Zurbriggen won the combined competition as best overall performer in Thursday’s downhill and today’s slalom. The combined race carries equal World Cup points. He finished 10th today.
