As part of its transition to the next generation of leadership, Motorola Inc. has elected George M. C. Fisher, 49, chairman and chief executive. Fisher had served as president and chief executive since January, 1988. Gary L. Tooker, 50, has been named president and chief operating officer. He had been senior executive vice president and chief operating officer. Christopher B. Galvin, 39, joins the chief executive office as senior executive vice president and assistant chief operating officer. Robert W. Galvin, 67, Motorola chairman since 1959, will continue to serve as a full-time officer, but in a supporting role as chairman of the executive committee.
