A man killed when he stepped in front of a car in Studio City was identified by Los Angeles police Monday as a transient who had previously been cited for jaywalking in the area.
John William Kocan, 46, was killed about 7 p.m. Sunday when he walked into traffic on Coldwater Canyon Avenue near Dickens Street and was struck by a northbound car, Detective Don Bellante said. Police declined to identify the driver of the car because he was not cited.
“It was not the driver’s fault,” Bellante said. “This guy wandered out into the street where there was no crosswalk and into the traffic. He had done this before.” Bellante said Kocan had been cited last month for jaywalking in the area, but details of that incident were unavailable.
The detective said results of tests to determine if Kocan was intoxicated were incomplete.
