WORLD IN BRIEF : LEBANON : Gen. Aoun Orders Newspaper Closed

The maverick Christian leader, Maj. Gen. Michel Aoun, ordered a newspaper closed after the publication continued to refer to President Elias Hrawi as head of state. The editor of the offending Ad Diyar newspaper, Charles Ayoub, was served a subpoena. Hrawi has been in office since last November under an Arab League-backed peace plan that Aoun opposes. Aoun and Hrawi are both Christians.
