THE SIDELINES : Lakers to Retire Abdul-Jabbar’s No. 33 Jersey at March 20 Game

The Lakers will retire Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s No. 33 jersey on Tuesday, March 20, the team announced today.
The ceremony will take place at halftime of the Lakers’ game against the Charlotte Hornets at the Forum.
Abdul-Jabbar, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer with 38,387 points and the league’s only six-time Most Valuable Player, helped the Lakers win NBA championships in 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987 and 1988.
Abdul-Jabbar retired last year after 20 NBA seasons, the longest career in league history. He played his first six seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks and the last 14 with the Lakers.
Abdul-Jabbar will be the fourth player in Laker history to have his jersey retired. The previous three are Elgin Baylor, who wore No. 22, Wilt Chamberlain, who wore No. 13, and current general manager Jerry West, who wore No. 44.
